The first edition of this book was a slightly modified version of my dissertation (defended in February ). This second edition has been extended considerably. Many technological developments of the past 10 years have been included. Feedback from students attending my course on 3D survey design has helped clarify various not-so-clear discussions in the book. Shelf North of the Faroe Islands recognised by the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf On 14 March , the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS), established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, recognised the claimed entitlement of the Kingdom of Denmark to an outer continental shelf beyond nautical miles north of. Geology of Greenland Survey Bulletin , pp. The Lower Palaeozoic Franklinian Basin is extensively exposed in northern Greenland and the Canadian Arctic Islands. For much of the early Palaeozoic, the basin consisted of a southern shelf, bordering the craton, and a northern deep-water trough; the boundary between the shelf and the trough. Geophysical data can be used indirectly to map some geological features in detail, including faults, shear zones, folds, alteration zones and other structures. To obtain this data, survey areas are systematically traversed by fixed wing aircraft carrying geophysical equipment along parallel flight lines.

SEISMIC ACQUISITION PLANNING AND DESIGN: The goal of any 3-D seismic survey is to reduce drilling risks by acquiring, processing and interpreting a three dimensional volume of seismic data. This volume of data will provide a better understanding of the subsurface geology, diminishing the probability of marginal and dry well locations.

Seismic data have been used successfully for hydrocarbon exploration in the Cook Inlet Basin for more than 50 years. While the early data are quite poor by current standards, they were sufficient to identify a number of large anticlines, leading to significant oil and gas discoveries such as the Swanson River oil field in and the Kenai gas field in (KPB, b; Smith, ).

Full global coverage of seafloor mapping, equivalent to that which exists for the Earth's land surface, has, to date, only been achieved by deriving bathymetry from radar altimeters on satellites such as GeoSat and Cited by: Copy the HTML code below to embed this book in your own blog, website, or application.
